GRANDAD
For somebody you like enough to insult properly.
Happy birthday to the family legend who can repair almost anything with electrical tape, string and dangerously misplaced confidence, yet remains completely defeated by the television remote. You remember exactly what everything cost in 1974, distrust contactless payments and regard any journey over twenty miles as something requiring sandwiches and a full tank of petrol. You tell stories that begin before I was born, contain twelve unnecessary characters and somehow end without ever reaching the original point. Still, you give the best advice, the worst jokes and hugs that make everything feel all right. You’re living proof that becoming a grandad doesn’t make a man old. Falling asleep before the birthday cake does. Love you, Grandad x
