Happy birthday to the woman who met our son, discovered exactly what he was like and inexplicably decided to keep him. We raised him, encouraged him and attempted to teach him basic domestic skills. We can only apologise for the areas where training clearly failed. You’ve joined the family, learned which subjects cause arguments and mastered the polite smile required when somebody tells the same story again. We couldn’t have chosen anybody better to love him, support him and occasionally explain where he has gone wrong. You’re not merely our daughter-in-law—you’re the person who finally took responsibility for him. We’re very glad he found you. Good luck x
